’08 CESAFI KICKS OFF

CEBU’s football standouts are ready to get rolling as the Cesafi football tournament finally kicks-off this morning with a quintiple bill at the University of San Carlos (USC) – Technology Center football field in Talamban.

Three games are in the offing in the collegiate ranks today, which will be highlighted by the opening clash between league powerhouse University of the Visayas (UV) and the defending champions University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJ-R) at 11 a.m.

In other matches, the University of Cebu (UC) will duke it out with last year’s runner-up USC at 1 p.m. while newcomers Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) faces the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in the last game at 3 p.m.

The tournament will adopt a single round-robbin with the top four teams advancing to the semifinals.

High School defending champions Don Bosco sizes up its title defense when they face the booters of USC in the main game at 9:30 a.m.

USPF will also be seeing action today as they tackle the USJ-R in the curtain-raiser at 8 a.m.

The juniors tournament format will be league type with 20 players allowed on each team but only 18 are permitted to play./CORRESPONDENT JONAS PANERIO
