O' HALLORAN HARI SA 1ST VAL2020 TRIATHLON

CEBU, Philippines - Gihurot sa pagawas ang tanang kusog ni Canadian pro triathlete Mathieu O'Halloran aron maghari sa 1st Val 2020 Triathlon kagahapon didto sa baywalk sa lungsod sa Naga.

Sayo kaayong gihuman ni O'Halloran ang 1km. swim, 30km. bike ug 7.5 km. run. Iyang gitapos ang lumba sud lang sa usa ka oras, 27 minutos ug 24 segundos. Nagsunod niya si kanhi RP Ironman Noy Jopson nga mi-oras og 1:36.20, si Norte Banjo sa Cagayan de Oro maoy mipahiluna sa ikatulong dapit sa oras nga 1:39.14.

Sa women’s division, si RP team member Lorhiz Echavez mao ang nanghawod human niya gitapos ang lumba sa oras nga 1:47.45, gisundan ni Alyssa Lagahit (2:17.00) ug Jane Ong (2:47.30) alang sa ikaduha ug ikatulong dapit.

Si Ralph Arche sa Sugbutriathlon, maoy midaog sa seniors 20 sa oras nga 1:44.30, gisundan nila ni Kristiane Lim (1:46.09) ug Franz Baguio (2:47.30).

Giangkon sab ni Eugene Sanchez ang korona sa seniors 30 human niya gitapos ang lumba sud sa usa ka oras, 46 minutos ug 09 segundos. Gisundan ni Raymond Bontol (1:47.55) ug Joseph Miller (1:49.45).

Si Douglas Sharpe mipukan ni Pio Salvador Jr. aron maangkon ang unang dapit sa masters 50 sa oras nga 2:13.17. Si Salvador mi-oras og 2:53.40.

Ang magtiayong Tenggoy ug Merly Colmenares miangkon sa una ug ikatulo nga dapit. Si Tenggoy maoy naghari sa sprint masters, samtang si Merly mipahiluna sa ikatulong dapit sa super sprint female nga gidominar ni Rochelle Tan (1:09.12). Si Loveleingell Casidsid (1:14.07) mi-okupar sa ikaduha.

Sila si Tyrone Tan (2:13.17), Job Paul Cereno (2:11.55) ug Arnold Suarez (2:13.17) maoy top three finishers sa male super sprint.

Sa relay-tandem category, ang Team Abellana nila ni Juperson Delos Santos, Edgar Allan Jarina, ug Jeepy Lumungsod maoy naghari, samtang ang Team Max1mo nila ni Mendel Lopez, Luis Miguel Maximo ug Alex Qui maoy miangkon sa ikaduhang dapit, gisundan sa Team Porary nila ni Kristian Garciano ug Ruben Pilapil. CANADIAN professional triathlete Mathieu O' Halorran came, saw and virtually conquered the grueling sprint distance of the first ever Val 2020 Naga Triathlon by taking home the title in the male category yesterday at the Baywalk in the municipality of Naga.

O'Halloran, a pro since 2007 who has finished triathlons around the world including impressive finishes in Phuket, Thailand, Malaysia and China, defeated Cebu's pride and joy, Noy Jopson, finishing the race in 1 hour, 27 minutes and 24 seconds. Jopson, last year's Philippine 70.3 Ironman champion, placed second in 1:36:20 while Norte Banjo placed third in 1:53:43.

Decorated triathlete Lorhiz Echavez won the female title as she crossed the finish line in 1:47.45, besting Alyssa Lagahit's 2:17:00 and Jane Ong's 2:47:30.

The 19-under class was ruled by Gavin Solijon who finished in 1:52:23 while Karl Valles finished second in 1:53:43.

The Seniors 20 class saw Ralph Francistino Arche claim the crown with a time of 1:44:30 while Kristiane Lim finished second in 1:46:09. Franz Baguio rounded out the top three with 2:47:30. The seniors 30 title on the other hand, was won by Eugene Sanchez who finished with a time of 1:46:09 while Raymund Bontol was the runner-up in 1:47:55.

Tenggoy Colmenares won the Masters 40 class while Douglas Sharpe achieved the same feat over in the Masters 50 category.

Meanwhile in the super sprint distance, Tyrone Tan won the male open in 59 minutes while Antonio Gocotano placed second with a time of 1:01:42. Mark Almosara finished third in 1:05:26. The female open was won by Rochelle Tan while Loveleingell Casidsid was the runner-up.

Team Abellana, composed of Juperson delos Santos, Edgar Jarina and Jeppy Lumongsod won the relay/tandem race followed by Team Maximax, comprised of Igi Maximo, Mendel Lopez and Alex Qui. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio

CEBU, Philippines - As expected, Canadian pro triathlete Mathieu O’Halloran showed off his might well to reign supreme in the 1st Val 2020 Triathlon at Naga’s baywalk yesterday.

O’Halloran edged out former RP Team mainstay Noy Jopson for the men’s open title of the sprint event covering one-kilometer swim, 30km bike and 7.5km run.

O Halloran finished the lung-busting race in one hour, 27 minutes and 24 seconds, while Jopson wound up second with the time of 1:36.20. Cagayan de Oro’s Norte Banjo placed third in 1:39.14.

In the distaff side, Lorhiz Echavez proved too much to handle for Dumaguete’s Alyssa Lagahit after clocking in 1:47.45. Lagahit posted 2:17, while another Cebuana Jane-Jane Ong settled for third in 2:47.30.

Ralph Francistino Arche was the fastest in the seniors 20 class with the time of 1:44.30 followed by Kristiane Lim (1:46.09) and Franz Baguio (2:47.30).

Eugene Sanchez ruled the seniors 30 with a 1:46.09 clocking. Raymond Bontol ended up second in 1:47.55 followed by Joseph Miller in 1:49.45.

Douglas Sharpe beat Pio Salvador, Jr. to bag the top spot in the masters 50 with the time of 2:13.17. Salvador clocked in 2:53.40.

Tenggoy Colmenares and his wife Merly had a 1-3 finish that called for a double celebration.Tenggoy dominated the sprint’s masters 40 in 2:01.45, while his wife was third in the super sprint’s female open won by Rochelle Tan.

Tan finished the race in 1:09.12, while Loveleingell Casidsid placed second in 1:14.07. Colmenares was third 1:19.42.

The men’s super sprint was dominated by Tyrone Tan with the time of 2:13.17 followed by Job Paul Cereno (2:11.55) and Arnold Suarez (2:13.17).

The relay-tandem battle saw the trio of Juperson Delos Santos, Edgar Allan Jarina, and Jeepy Lumungsod composing Team Abellana clinching the title. Team Max1mo of Mendel Lopez, Luis Miguel Maximo and Alex Qui finished second, while Team Porary of Kristian Garciano and Ruben Pilapil claimed the third place honors. (FREEMAN)

CANADIAN Matt O’ Halloran and Cebuana triathlete Lorhiz Echavez topped the sprint division of the 1st Val2020 Naga Triathlon yesterday at the Naga’s Baywalk.

O’Halloran, who is considered one of the fastest swimmers in professional triathlon, clocked 1:27:24 to beat Noy Jopson (1:36:20). Norte Banjo finished third at 1:39:14.

Echavez, a former swimming standout, ran away with the women’s title in 1:47:45. Alyssa Lagahit was a distant second at 2:17, while Jane Ong got third in 2:47.

Gavin Solijon clocked 1:52:23 to secure the top spot in the 19-Under division, beating Karl Valles by two minutes.

Ralph Francistino Arche won the Seniors 20 division in 1:44:30, less than two minutes ahead of Kristiane Glendale Lim (1:46:09). Franz Baguio got third in 2:47:30.

Eugene Sanchez secured the top spot in the Seniors 30 division in 1:46:09, while Tenggoy Colmenares won the Masters 40 in 2:01:45. Douglas Sharpe took the Masters 50 title in 2:29:45.

In the Super Sprint Distance, Tyrone Tan won the men’s open in 59 minutes, while Rochelle Tan won the women’s open in 1:09:12.

In the relay/tandem division, Team Abellana of Juperson De Los Santos, Edgar Allan Jarina and Jeppy Lumungsod got first followed by the Team Maximax of Mendel Lopez Alex Qui and Luis Miguel Maximo.
