CAMPAGNOLO'S TIME TRIAL COMPONENTS FOR 2012

Italian bike giants Campagnolo have launched a new range of triathlon and time trial components for the upcoming race season. Here they are, hot off the press.

Designed and created at the Campy Tech Lab, the range includes new bar-end gear shifters, cranksets and brake levers which can all be used with 10 or 11 speed Campagnolo systems... Read more

RIDLEY DEAN RS

Ridley makes no secret about the Dean. It's a time trial rig designed for ProTour racers. This may seem like a good thing for you, as they spared no expense in terms of making the bike ultra fast. If there was a change they could make to reduce drag, they made it. It's not just the split fork blades, the split seat stays, the aero edge paint, the reversed front brake, the slicing head tube, the tucked-under rear wheel, aero seat mast, but the position. The Dean may only be comfortably rideable if you've tuned your aero position with the help of a pro and have years and thousands and thousands of miles in the saddle. Not only would you need to be fit, but extremely flexible... Read more

MAXIMO SETTLES FOR 2ND IN ORMOC

Published in Sun Star Newspaper on October 12, 2011 Wednesday issue

CEBUANO student-cyclist Luis Miguel “Igimax” Maximo, the youngest participant at 16 years old, missed a crucial breakaway in the 70-kilometer Road Race of Ormoc Bike Tour to finish second in the Men’s 19-Under division last weekend.

In a massed-start road race where all cyclists are released simultaneously, a rider or more either initiates or follows attacks or breakaways to leave the others behind.

“There were a lot of attacks from different riders during the early part of the race, especially in the flat portion of the route. I was able to float with the attackers.

But you cannot just react to all attacks of different riders or else you get tired easily. With an organized peloton, the attackers are normally brought back to the group. I did not initiate any attack because I was not familiar with the route and I needed to conserve energy, ” said the SAC awardee.

Upon negotiating a left turn, a bunch of local riders accelerated and made a sudden surge. Igimax thought it was one of those attacks that the peloton can just bring it back. Unfortunately for him, that was the winning break. He missed the train. (PR)

MAXIMO VIES IN ORMOC CITY BIKE TOUR TODAY

Published in Cebu Daily Newspaper on October 9, 2011 Sunday issue
by Jonas Panerio, Correspondent
Rick Gabuya, Sports Editor

CEBUANO junior cyclist Luis Miguel "Igi" Maximo plunges into back into action today as he competes in the 70 kilometer road race of the Ormoc City Bike Tour in Leyte.

The 16-year old biking prodigy is gunning for a decent finish as he takes on the unfamiliar terrain of Ormoc.

The PAREF-Springdale student, a three-time Junior 15-U champion of the Philippine Premiere Cycling League, is confident that his recent triumphs in the Tour of Bohol last month will carry him through the gruelling race.

"I like the terrain of the race route.  It will end with a climb in the last 14km to Lake Danao.  My training in Busay Hills will definitely help me propel to the finish.  Once again, I'm proud to race for Cebu." said Maximo

The graduating high school student is expected to use his trusted racing YKKBike carbon fibre machine of Ridley frame, Token wheels, Lazer helmet, Fizik saddle, FSA stem and Kenda tires.

A top 10 finish will be his target considering that adult and experienced riders from Ormoc, Cebu and the Visayas are expecting to slug it out for the top spots in the race organized by Ormoc City Medical Society Bike Tour headed by Dr. Gatchalian.

The Cebu delegation will be headed by JV Araneta with defending champion Art Lambo, triathlete Andrew Ong, Cesar Salazar and the rest of the Cebu Cycling executive riders./ CORRESPONDENT JONAS PANERIO
