LIMPAG: SPORTS WO(MAN) OF THE YEAR

He is the runner. She is the runner. And together they are the “Sportsman”of The Year.
Not one, not two, but the thousands who regularly lace up every Sunday morning to join the fun runs.
For what individual—or group—has achieved more than the runners this year?
For this year, no sport can claim to have the growth—and to have the loyal subjects—as running has... more @ http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/running-top

UYTIEPO: RUNNING ALARM

Filipino ream - SPORTS EYE By Raffy T. Uytiepo The Freeman >> The Freeman Sections >> Cebu Sports: "With races being staged almost every week, two sometimes, runners will soon be on the losing end. Frankly, I’ve already stopped giving advices as it seems some runners just won’t listen. I’ve known of runners who ran two marathons in as many months. “Murag okay lang akong paminaw” was the usual response. I said yes, it’s alright for now, as it won’t affect you right away. I’ve also known of runners who gave me the same answers 3 years ago and where are they now? Some could hardly walk while some suffer an array of ailments. Worse, one is six feet under. I’m not scaring you I’m just telling the facts. Since we cannot control the runs anymore, just select one and try to get some rest. Even machines break down...

NAVARRO: BIGGEST WINS, EVENTS

Biggest wins, events of 2009 - BLEACHER TALK By Rico Navarro The Freeman >> The Freeman Sections >> Cebu Sports: "I can’t help but make a plug about the “silence” of local football. Don’t get me wrong. The football family is alive with activities, but somehow, they aren’t making any noise in the same way that boxing, basketball and the running boom are doing. Like it or not, I hope football’s leaders realize that if you’re out to grow the sport and want to contribute to building Philippine football, then you’ve got to make some noise."...

PHILIPPINE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE 2009

Senate inquiry on athlete harassment? The Philippine Star >> News >> Sports: "“The Games organizers must get consent and support of IFs (International Federations like the UCI) in order for their sports to be played,” said a former POC executive. “The IFs own the sport, they own the rules, they license and give authority to referees, they accept member NSAs and their athletes.”

No National Olympic Committee (NOC) in the world, including the POC, has the right to accredit an athlete to participate in the SEA Games or Asian Games or the Olympics without prior license from the IF. That was clear when the Philippines was not allowed to participate in basketball at the 2005 SEA Games because of the FIBA suspension – even if Manila hosted the event."...

RP CYCLISTS BARRED EVEN IN PRACTICE RUNS

RP riders barred from competing in Laos Manila Bulletin: "Joey Barba, set to defend the downhill event of mountain bike, and Scott Remie were not allowed to run in the practice session in the afternoon.

The development cost the Philippines at least two gold medals since aside from Barba, Remia Bitbit is also a defending champion.

Philcycling chairman Arnulfo Taberdo, who acted as team manager, was emotional as he narrated what transpired during the team manager’s meeting held in the morning.

Taberdo said he participated in the drawing of lots and had the impression that the team would be allowed to participate.

It was only during the release of the cyclists’ numbers when Taberdo was told to wait for UCI confirmation.
'They told me to wait for their call, so I went to the mountain bike venue and waited for the call,” Taberdo said.

The run session was scheduled 2:30 p.m. At 4 p.m., Taberdo again inquired and was told to wait until Tuesday night if the cyclists would be allowed to compete the next day.
Exasperated over the turn of events, Taberdo told a UCI official present to decide once and for all if the cyclists would be allowed to compete"...

RP CYCLING. HENSON: DONT BLAME UCI

PHILSTAR. This case only proves that the POC is powerless in recognizing an NSA if the NSA isn’t recognized by its international governing body. The POC is, in effect, unauthorized to recognize an NSA unless the NSA is sanctioned by its international governing body. The implication is before an organization applies to the POC for recognition as an NSA, it must first be confirmed as a country affiliate by the international governing body.

Gaining POC recognition as an NSA is therefore meaningless unless there is prior clearance or approval by the international governing body...

If only we Filipinos learned to settle things amicably, if only the POC exercised its political will to solve the problem between the PCA and PhilCycling and if only national interest took priority over personal interest, the cycling imbroglio in Laos could’ve been avoided.

No, UCI isn’t to blame for the shame and scandal in Laos. Only the Filipino sports leaders themselves are to blame for refusing to give in to each other, for stubbornly protecting their turf like it was a birth-right, for insisting to hold on to authority without compromise and for disgracing Philippine sports.

Caught in the middle of this mess are the 13 cyclists who are the victims of an embarrassing civil war. They trained long and hard for the SEA Games. Because of the insensitivity of the country’s sports officials, the 13 cyclists will likely be reduced to tourist status in Laos... RP CYCLISTS BANNED IN SEA GAMES

Bitbit stint in peril as POC runs out of time The Philippine Star >> News >> Sports: "“If I were to race alone, I’ll do it. I’m used to racing alone,” said a teary-eyed Bitbit in Filipino after learning her 12 teammates were officially out of the competition. “ But the hardest part is coming over and not being able to compete. That’s bad for our morale.”

“We were told that everything is okay, that all of us would compete – iyun pala hindi,” said Bitbit, the lone UCI license holder in the team."...

WHAT TO EAT & DRINK ON THE ROAD

All sportsmen/women now what it’s like to get hungry and to get the “knock” or the “bonk”. When this happens you get weak, those pedals are so heavy, your head gets light and you can’t stay with the pack. It can happen to anyone and anytime, but normally to the under trained or those who have not prepared properly for either a hard ride or an event.  Read more @ http://www.bikecyclingreviews.com/Eat_Drink_on_the_Road.html

BIKE FRAME SIZES

Your frame has to fit, that is the most important thing. Frame manufacturers all have there own ideas as to what the geometries should be for their bikes, but there are a few dimensions that you cant mess around with too much.  More @ http://www.bikecyclingreviews.com/Frame_Geometry.html
