CEBUANO CYCLIST PLACES 5TH IN TIME TRIAL AT CLARK

Published in Cebu Daily Newspaper on Nov. 29, 2011 Tuesday issue
CEBUANO junior cyclist Luis Miguel “Igi” Maximo made a good account of himself in the Tour of Clark as he finished in fifth place in the 10 kilometer individual time trial in the Juniors U-20 class, last weekend at the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga.
Maximo, a student of PAREF-Springdale, finished with a time of 14 minutes and 32 seconds and averaged a speed of 41.32 kilometers per hour.
The race was won by Ryan Bravo of 7-Eleven, who finished with a time of 13:30 while Wilfren Arabe finished in second with a time of 14:15. Miguel Gonzales and Kenneth Balunsay were in third and fourth place, respectively.
Making the feat a lot more impressive is the fact that Maximo was one of the youngest in the field and was the lone entry from the Visayas and Mindanao. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio.

KENYAN Abraham Missos stepped up his game, while Christy Tutor escaped the threat of her rivals in Paref-Springdale’s Run With the Titans at Parkmall, Mandaue yesterday.

Missos, who normally dominated the 5K divisions of previous races, won the men’s 15K open, a position usually taken by his fellow Kenyan Joshphat Kiptanui.

He clocked 51:27 to beat his compatriot Francis Kakui, who got second place in 53:40 for second place.
Ian Bernido was the best local finisher and placed third overall in 55:05.

Tutor was in tough competition against rivals Madelyn Carter and Mary Jane Beboso but she survived them by finishing first in 1:13.35, just a second ahead of Beboso and two seconds clear of Carter.

Team Reborn’s Tenggoy Colmenares topped the men’s 15K for parents in 1:10.36, beating veteran marathoner and Run for Sight chairman Dr. Potenciano “Yong” Larrazabal III (1:12.38).
