UV DISQUALIFIED FROM CESAFI SEMIFINALS

The semifinal cast of the CESAFI football tournament will have a major overhaul after top-seed University of the Visayas was disqualified with the discovery of academic deficiencies on two of their players.

This was divulged by CESAFI Commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy Thursday afternoon after a meticulous investigation uncovered academic deficiencies for both Adrianne Calinawan and Jerson Omnos, resulting in the team’s disqualification.

UV’s ouster opened the door for the University of Cebu Webmasters to see action in the next round, which starts today at the University of San Carlos football field in Talamban. UC through, will have its hands full as it faces newly minted top seed and four-time champions University of San Jose – Recoletos Kicking Jaguars at 8 am.

USJ-R will be looking for a repeat of their 3-1 elimination round victory over UC. Fueling USJ-R’s bid Adrianne Mejaran, Marvin Abelgas, Paul dela Victoria and Robert Mamac.

The other semis pairing pits second seed University of Southern Philippines against defending champion University of San Carlos with both teams expected to go all out for a win following their 2-2 draw in the preliminaries./CORRESPONDENT JONAS PANERIO
