Decorated Cebuana cyclist Ana Patricia "Ica" Maximo has taken up the challenge to "Race & Learn" cycling in the United States next month.
After dominating both the juniors and women's open categories of the 2015 Cebu Criterium Championships last December in Toledo City, Keith De Fiebre, American organizer & sponsor, saw her potential and encouraged her to experience women cycling in the US.
"You will learn a lot from racing with other women cyclists in the USA. Back there we do it differently and the level of competition is much higher," said De Fiebre, who is a US cycling race organizer.
The current women junior world champion in road race and time trial is an American. In the recent UCI World Track Cycling in London, the US women team bagged the gold in the team pursuit.
"I want to learn more about cycling and know why other countries are doing it well. When I come back, I wish to share it with the youth and hopefully start a junior cycling project in Cebu," said the national champion of Philippine Youth Games-Batang Pinoy Cycling and testrider of YKKBikes.com.
The four-time medalist of Philippine National Games (PNG) plans to compete in the women juniors of the USA Cycling Road Development Series in California. She will also join training rides with some women and junior cycling clubs.
The number of races she can participate will depend though on the support she will be able to get from others, especially the Cebuano community. "I want to represent and promote Cebu in my races abroad. I hope to get the support," shares the two-time SAC awardee and a Grade 10 student of Sacred Heart School - Hijas de Jesus.
