CEBUANA junior cyclist Ana Patricia “Ica” Maximo continued to improve by leaps and bounds as she bagged the bronze medal in the Fort Ord Circuit Race’s Women Category 4 on Sunday in Seaside, California.
In spite of the chilling temperatures which dropped as low as 10 degrees Celsius, the 16-year-old YKK Bikes-backed rider boarded her Ridley-Token-SRAM steed with confidence and powered through the 60-minute circuit race to bag the podium finish.
With no juniors division being offered in the competition, Maximo opted to join the tougher Women Cat 4 class. It paid off as the Filipina became the first junior cyclist from the Philippines to win in this Northern California race.
“I am very grateful to my American hosts Nat and Keith DeFiebre and Paris Loader for providing the accommodation and food in my races here in Northern California,” said the grade 10 student of Sacred Heart School–Hijas de Jesus.
The event was officially sanctioned by USA Cycling.
Up next for Maximo is the Sea Otter Classic in Monterey, California, which is considered to be the world’s largest cycling festival.
