CEBUANO IS COUNTRY'S REP TO INT'L BIKE CAMP

Cebu Daily News.  CEBUANO cycling sensation Luis Miguel "Igi" Maximo is expected to hone his skills even more with the hopes of representing the country in future international competitions after he was selected to participate in the UCI World Cycling Center-Korea Satellite Training Camp next month in South Korea.

Maximo, a student of the Ateneo de Manila University who led the Cebu Multisport Team to gold in the recent Ironman 70.3 in Cebu, was endorsed to join the elite camp by PhilCycling, the country's governing body of the sport, under president Bambol Tolentino. He will be joined there by national track coach Carlo Jazul.

The 50-day training camp will give the participants the opportunity to undergo a high-level training and education camp to develop their knowledge and skills. The coaching education program will be delivered by Keith Flory and Dr. Chester Hills of World Cycling Center in UCI Switzerland.

"I am willing to go and learn new and advanced cycling programs. I am thankful to Cong. Bambol Tolentino and Dir. Jojo Villa for the opportunity. But I am also a student and I need to seek permission and support from my school especially that I will be absent for 50 days," said Maximo, a former awardee of the Sportswriters Association of Cebu (SAC) Sports Awards.

Maximo is no rookie when it comes to international exposure as he represented the country in the 2012 Asian Junior Cycling Championships in Malaysia and World Youth Day in Spain with the backing of his former school - PAREF Springdale School.

The biggest cycling distributor in the country, Cebu-based YKK Trading, will be supporting the youngster by providing him with race-ready Ridley frame, Campagnolo groupset, Token wheels, Lazer helmet and eyewear, Santini jerseys, FSA crankset, Vision basebar, Lake shoes, Kenda tires, Fizik saddle, CycleOps trainer, and Challenge tires which will be used in the training camp.
