SUKWAHI sa gilaumang kulbahinam nga pinatiray, ningdominar ang Don Bosc9o Technological Center (DBTC) batok sa University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 3-0, aron depensaan ang ilang football high school division title kagahapon sa Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) sa University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) field sa Brgy. Talamban, ning dakbayan.

Ang DBTC, nga igo lang midaog og usa ka puntos batok sa USPF sa finals sa miaging tuig, ning higayuna mao gyud ang nagkontrolar sa duwa gikan sa sinugdanan hangtod sa katapusan.

Gani sulod sab gyud sa 17 ka mga higayon nga nakasuway pagpatid ang DBTC pagpasulod sa bola ngadto sa goal - tulo ra hinuoy nasulod - samtang ang USPF kausa ra gyud nakasuway unya sipyat pa.

Ang DBTC, nga nihuman sa kompetisyon nga way pilde sud sa tulo ka mga duwa alang sa kinatibuk-ang siyam ka mga puntos, unang nakapuntos sa ika-29 minutos sa kombati gikan kang Miko Joseph Limalima.

Onse ka minutos ang nakalabay, nakuha sa DBTC ang ikaduha nilang puntos gikan kang James Nacorda.

Unya paglabay sa 15 minutos, laing puntos ang nakuha sa DBTC gikan kang Noel Christian sa ika-65 minutos ug wala na gyud nakabawi ang USPF human niadto.

Ang USPF, nga maoy ningsakmit sa ikaduhang puwesto, nihuman sa torneyo dala ang duha ka mga daog ug usa ka pildi alang sa kinatibuk-ang 6.0 puntos.

Sa laing bahin, nasakmit sa University of San Carlos ang ikatulong dapit human nila gipangpukan ang University of San Jose Recoletos, 3-1.

Unang nakaratsada ang USJ-R dihang nakapuntos si Elijah Abella sa ikatulong minutos pa lang sa duwa.

Sa ika-11 minutos, natabla sa USC ang kombati pinaagi sa puntos ni Ray Vincent Tuadles.

Taudtaod ang kombati una pa nakapuntos si Rex Anthony Catubigan aron ihatag sa USC ang labaw, 2-1, sa ika-48 minutos. Paglabay sa siyam ka minutos, nakapuntos na sab si Tuadles aron inaton ang labaw, 3-1, ug milahos na sila sa kadaugan. (ESL)

DON Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) wrested the 2008 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. secondary level title as it held the No. 1 University of Southern Philippines-Foundation (USP-F) scoreless, 3-0, at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center (USC-TC) football field.

Both teams were tied with six points going into the match with USPF holding a slight two goal edge over DBTC.

However, DBTC showed it was far from USPF’s equal as it dominated 80 percent of the game and had 17 shots compared to a lone attempt for USPF.

Miko Joseph Lima Lima converted a penalty kick after a hand ball in the 39th minute of regulation for the 1-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, James Nacorda attacked from the right side and scored a goal at the 50th minute then Christian Noel added another goal 10 minutes later for the 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, USC-North Campus triumphed over University of San Jose-Recoletos, 3-1, in a come-from-behind fashion to clinch third place honors of the tournament.

USJ-R had the early lead with a strike by Elijah Abellana at the three-minute mark. However, Ray Vincent Tuadles retaliated in the 11th minute for a 1-1 score.

Ray Anthony Catubigan scored for USC-NC in the 48th minute and Tuadles sealed the victory with his second in the 57.

Just like the championship game between DBTC and USP-F, USC-NC also had control of the ball most of the time with 80 percent of the possession.

In the collegiate division, USP-F remained unbeaten and at the top of the rankings after a 3-0 win over University of Cebu.

Top scorer Rene Sanchez scored the first goal for USP-F in the 37th and added another goal in the 76th. However, he was kicked out of the game after getting his second yellow card and will be suspended in USP-F’s final game of the eliminations against 2006 Cesafi champions USC.

Sanchez, who scored five goals in the competition, got his first yellow after an intentional hand ball and his second for wasting time. (EKA)

Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) retained the CESAFI junior football crown with a convincing 3-0 victory over the University of Southern Philippine Foundation (USPF) yesterday at the University of San Carlos Technological Center in Talamban.

This year, Don Bosco made sure they win the championship in the pitch. The previous year, they could only draw with USPF, and waited to savor the championship the organizers have computed the goal difference.

DBTC came in the match as the underdogs as USPF just needed a draw to win the title, so their game plan was to play aggressively from the first start.

Perhaps, too aggressive. In the 28th minute, DBTC striker Miko Joseph Limalima received a yellow card. Eleven minutes later, Limalima more than made up for his boner when he scored Don Bosco’s first goal after a penalty.

With USPF still regrouping after the goal, James Nacorda sneaked in another marker for a 2-0 lead. From there, it was DBTC’s show as they scored again to make it 3-0.

DBTC finished the tournament with a clean 3-0 slate. USPF again settled for second place while the University of San Carlos - NC was third after beating USJ-R, 3-1.

Don Bosco and USPF, however, have to share one award yesterday - the Golden Boot – awarded to Peter Ricamora (DBTC) and Jephunneh Pelanio (USPF) for scoring five goals each during the tournament.

DON Bosco Technology Center is in a must-win situation in the last match of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. high school football event today at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center.

DBTC must win its game against the top-seeded University of Southern Philippines Foundation because a draw would automatically give the latter the title.

Unlike the college category the Cesafi high school football tournament follows the league type rule, which means that the team with the highest number of points, is declared the champions.

However, even if both teams are tied with six points apiece, USP-F holds a two-goal advantage over DBTC, which gives them the upper hand if ever the game ends in a draw.

Another award that USP-F and DBTC will be competing over is the Golden Boot award. USP-F’s Jephunneh Pelanio and DBTC’s Peter Ricamora are neck-to-neck for the award being the two highest scorers in the tournament with five goals each.

Meanwhile, in the other high school match, USC-North Campus will be facing University of San Jose-Recoletos, with the winner clinching the third place.

In the college division, the undermanned University of the Visayas team will be going up against the undefeated USC squad.

UV, which only has two points in two games, will be without three of their top players coming into this game. The team lost captain Frederick Alazas, striker Junard Aguilar and midfielder Julius Acre after they acquired their second yellow cards.

In the other college clashes, the defending champion USJ-R will be playing a winless Cebu Doctors’ University, while the top-seeded USPF will take on University of Cebu. (EKA)

The secondary battle of the 2008 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated (CESAFI) football tournament comes to a close today featuring the dream final rematch between the defending champion Don Bosco Technology Center and runner-up University of Southern Philippines Foundation at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center (USC-TC) in Brgy. Talamban, this city.

Game time is set at 9:30.

Last year, Don Bosco edged USPF for the title by just a goal difference. They fought to a draw in the championship game, thus, Don Bosco was declared the victor for having the higher goal difference.

It’s the other way around this time as USPF enjoys a superior goal difference over Don Bosco.

Thus, the pressure is strapped against Don Bosco to sneak in a goal as USPF just needs a draw to take home the champion’s trophy.

Prior to the swashbuckling DBTC-USPF duel, the USC-North Campus will collide with the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) for third place.

Meanwhile, no decision has been reached yet regarding the alleged punching incident of a University of the Visayas player against University of Cebu booter during their collegiate match last week.

Tournament manager Jonathan “Maxi” Maximo said they are still waiting for the response from UV over the allegation before CESAFI commissioner Felix O. Tiukinhoy, Jr. could make a decision.

Even if there’s no decision yet, UV will still be playing with a badly crippled roster against USC as three of its players were slapped with a one-game suspensions after receiving two yellow cards. They are skipper Frederick Alazas, Julius Acre and Junard Aguilar.

The USC Golden Booters should take advantage of the situation as a victory over UV would catapult them to the top of the standings.

The USPF Spiking Panthers, for their part, should get past UC to stay on top of the heap.

The other college encounter pits USJ-R against the debuting Cebu Doctors’ University.

SHARAPOVA should be today’s topic, but I’ll start off with reactions to the punch in Cesafi football and a new Team Cebu City

Here’s a reaction to the punch from “Ronaldo,” a regular visitor in my blog even before I got this space: “The punching incident happened between the fullback and the striker at the UV side of the field. There were other UV players nearby. The ongoing play was at the center of the field on the UC side and not on the sideline….It’s difficult to believe the claim of the linesman that he did not see anything. But then, many referees and linesmen are biased for this particular team. Everyone in Cebu football knows that…”

Although the refs didn’t include the incident in their report, UC has already filed a complaint. How Cesafi resolves the punch that never happened should be interesting.

Regarding referees, Ronaldo has a point. I’ve seen strange things in Cebu football, like an off-duty ref, while in uniform, giving pointers to another team in the sidelines. However, though I do agree questionable calls occur, I don’t think an official will just look the other way if somebody punches another on the field. I maybe wrong, but in this case, I surely hope I am not.

As to biases, perceived or blatant, issues like these never go away. I’m not a referee, never was, and I am not connected with any team, so when I see calls that doesn’t jibe, like a card that should have been given, I just think that the referee’s standard for “rough play” might be too high—bali-an pa man bag-o ma yellow card. Coaches, players and fans don’t have that luxury.

Poor calls may be a factor in that game but the incident didn’t result to another brawl and that is a credit to UC and the officials. Why it got physical…

OUTDATED ABOITIZ. Aside from the punch, I also got a few e-mails from “jed.mendoza@aboitizland.com,” regarding the outdated schedules at www.aboitizfootballcup.com. (I think they have updated it). After an unpleasant send-to-all e-mail that said, “The schedules come from CFA themselves, so I wouldn’t worry about that. Maybe it is just a timing issue because CFA is quite late in providing updates that we are implementing. I think Mike is expecting that the updates are real-time,” this dude asked me if I could e-mail my articles so their website will have news content.

Very nice. If it was anyone else who got that e-mail, it would have attracted a reply filled with four-letter words or future articles of their event will only have one paragraph. But I am nice.

After a few more e-mails, the picture I got is, Aboitizfootballcup.com is only for players. They forgot the fans. It is commendable that the Aboitiz Cup has decided to put up a website but I hope they improve the way they run it. Otherwise, it will be a waste of bandwidth. And you should worry about that.

ROOKS AND TEAM CEBU CITY. I learned from my former boss that Cebuanos represented Bislig and won third place during the National Inter- Province tournament. I didn’t know that “piracy” was also rampant in chess. I thought it was football’s signature (the NCR team having an all-Ilonggo squad). With the latest announcement from Councilor Jack Jakosalem, Cebuanos need not represent other cities as a Team Cebu City Chess will now be formed.

Unfortunately, Councilor Jack was disappointed to learn there are only a few tournaments for the team but I have a wacky idea for Jack the Wack. It’s about (hold on to your coffee Sir Jack) international stints.

Let’s just send one or two of the most promising Cebuanos in tournaments in neighboring countries. They may not win even one title, but I’m sure, along the way, they’d pick up an IM or even GM norm or two.

Eventually we’d have a true blue grandmaster, courtesy of Team Cebu City… Now back to favorite blonde…

CESAFI TO UV PLAYER: EXPLAIN PUNCHING INCIDENT

CEBU Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football tournament manager Jonathan Maximo has asked the University of the Visayas defender who allegedly punched an University of Cebu to explain his side regarding the incident.

“We will wait for his side to be fair with everybody,” said football tournament Manager Jonathan Maximo in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Maximo said the officials of the game didn’t see the actual incident last Saturday because it happened on the opposite side of the pitch and the referees were on the other side of the University of San Carlos football field.

However, Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy and Maximo received a letter of complaint last Tuesday from UC head coach Glenn Ramos on the alleged punching. A medical and dental certificate was also attached to prove that the player was actually punched.

Tiukinhoy and Maximo are now waiting for the comment of the UV defender before they can analyze the whole incident and give the proper sanctions so that this problem will be resolved.

Maximo said that the commissioner’s office will be the one who will decide for the punishment of the player as soon as all the documents are gathered.

“I can’t really say what the sanction of the player will be it is up to the commissioner,” said Maximo. (EKA)

BY ALL accounts, it was a punch that would make Freddie Roach proud—the taller and older guy connecting to the face of the smaller and younger foe.

But it wasn’t boxing. It was the University of the Visayas football team captain against a UC striker in Cesafi football.

I got to the venue at halftime and was surprised to learn the captain, who I thought was one of the level-headed players in Cebu, to have done it.

“Gisapot naman kay sige sad bagulbul sa iyang mga kauban nga way klaro,” one official told me.

The captain was never punished for that punch because all four match officials never saw it. The play was on the other side of the field, while the incident was on the opposite end. And in football, if the officials don’t see it. It never happened.

It’s not fair, yes, but with 22 men and a field more than four times the area of a basketball court, lots of things never happen in a football game. That’s why it was the fifth official (a Fifa novelty and Cesafi doesn’t have that) and not the referee, two linesmen and fourth official, who saw Zinedine Zidane’s head butt on Materazzi during the World Cup Finals. (Hmmm, was the UC striker doing a Materazzi?)

I looked over the UC bench and saw the poor striker (gisiguro man gyud ang tisoy, tisoy nila, one official said) icing his face. For a punch that never happened, it sure hurt a lot. I asked the officials whether they will file a report but they said, “Unsaon man, wa man mi kita.”

UV got a lucky break I thought. Had the officials seen it, it would have been such an embarrassing incident for a team to have its captain, the most experienced player in the field at 24, ejected for unsportsmanlike conduct.

But later, I thought, the football gods must have been watching as an elementary mistake by the captain led to a UC goal. Though UV did manage to salvage a draw, thanks to the captain (hmm, football gods must’ve been drunk that day), the game showed how far the 2005 champions have fallen.

On the other hand, the punch wasn’t the only one that didn’t happen last Saturday, there was also an invisible game winner for Abellana National School/Pomeroy against Sacred Heart School-Jesuit in the Aboitiz 12-Under Cup. This one, it should have happened.

At 2-2, Pomeroy, according to the coach, scored the game winner, at least that’s what they thought. But to their surprise, it wasn’t counted. There was no offside, no foul, the coach claimed, the ref just said “Play on!”

Since coaches tend to be biased, I asked another source whether it really was a goal. The reply was, “Goal, pero di makita sa center referee. Ang linesman nga bag-o, wa kakita mao wa ka decide. Center ref decided no goal and changed it to goal. Coaches on both sides threatened to walkout whatever the ref decides that’s why gitabla na lang. (It’s an) officiating problem.”

Yes it is, but these two incidents also remind me of a video in Youtube. It’s about fair play and honesty. It shows how a team let the other side score to correct an error. That play was beyond the call of the officials, but they did it because they were honest enough to admit they were wrong and it was a goal they didn’t deserve. You don’t believe me? WHAT’S HAPPENING. The punch may not have happened but what is definitely happening is a welcome change for Cesafi. National championships, the SEA Games, and even the Asean Championships don’t provide stats for football games, but Cesafi does. No other tournament in Cebu post results on a website (check pabolfc.com) and offers fan interaction, Cesafi does. Had Cesafi basketball made one, it would have been a helluva hit. Aboitiz has the Aboitizfootballcup.com, but schedules there aren’t updated.

USPF SETS PACE IN CESAFI BOOTFEST

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation has shocked the early favorites by taking the lead in the college division of the 2008 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated (CESAFI) football tournament at the University of San Carlos Technological Center in Talamban, this city.

An undermanned USPF side scored an upset win over defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos, 1-0, the other day.

Rene Sanchez scored the lone goal in the game on the 76th minute for USPF.

Although USJ-R had ball possession most of the game, the Kicking Jaguars could not convert them into goals.

USJ-R also committed more fouls, 17, against USPF’s 15 and had more off-sides, 3 against 1.
The loss dropped USJ-R to fourth spot.

USPF now holds six points and a plus seven goal difference.

USC runs second also with six points but a GD of plus five. At third is the University of the Visayas with two points.

UV earned a point last Saturday as it figured in a 1-all draw with the University of Cebu.

UC opened the scoring on the 63rd courtesy of Ariel Repeso and UV equalized on the 84th through skipper Frederick Alazas.

UV had the advantage in terms of experience, but the team had trouble controlling their tempers allowing UC to halve the game.

Alazas and teammate Junard Aguilar will sit out the next game of UV as they were slapped with a second yellow card Saturday.

Julius Acre is another UV player who will miss the next game as he got carded twice last Saturday on the 53rd and 88th minutes.

“We’ve issued a warning before regarding players having a yellow card in their first game. Others seem to forget once they are on the field. I don’t know if they were carried away, but it seems USC will have the last laugh.

“UV’s team captain Alazas, prolific striker Aguilar and playmaker Acre will be sitting out in their 3rd game versus USC. Alazas and Aguilar both have 2 yellow cards and Acre was booked with a red card,” said tournament manager Jonathan Maximo.

AN altercation between two players during last Saturday’s Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) football match between the University of the Visayas and the University of Cebu will be scrutinized by Cesafi tournament manager Jonathan Maximo.

But before deciding on the fate of the players involved, Maximo said Cesafi will have to wait for an incident report from from the officials supervising the match.

“The Cesafi tournament committee will take action once we receive an official incident report from the referees on that matter,” Maximo said in an interview with Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

Maximo said that they will not hastily give the player a punishment as they haven’t verified and investigated the matter.

During the UV vs. UC game, a UV player allegedly punched the striker from UC in the face.

Because the incident happened away from the ball, the referee, two assistant referees and the fourth official failed to see it.

“The incident still has to be verified because we still have to receive a report,” Maximo said. “We have to evaluate the consequence of the actions of the player. We have to investigate this matter first before giving the proper sanctions.”

Meanwhile, in next week’s game UV will be missing their top players as they have accumulated yellow cards and will be suspended for their next game against 2006 Cesafi champion University of San Carlos.

Players suspended for next week will be Frederick Alazas, ace striker Junard Aguilar and playmaker Julius Acre, who got two yellow cards against UC.

UV is currently in third place with two points after two draws, while USC is second with two wins. (EKA)

Aborted CDU vs USC College game. Oct. 11, 2008. USC won 3-0 without a sweat. The game was defaulted in favor of USC. CDU showed up with only 6 players, 1 less than the FIFA rule of minimum 7 players to start a game.

If the game was played, can USC bury CDU with more than 3 goals? Remember, CDU is a newcomer and USPF massacred them with 6 goals to nil in its first game. Hopefully, the Goal Difference (GD) will not betray USC as it tries to advance to the Semi-Final round.

THE University of Cebu surprised the University of the Visayas, 1-1, in a highly physical Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. football match that saw one player ejected at the University of San Carlos-Technological Center.

On the other hand, the University of Southern Philippines took first spot the hard way, with a 1-0, upset over the University of San Jose-Recoletos, while USC got the No. 2 spot without breaking a sweat after newcomer Cebu Doctors’ University only had six players at tip off.

USC and USPF are both undefeated in two games, but USP is two goals ahead in the tally.

Meanwhile, UC surprised UV to take the lead in the second half after a defensive error before the former champion got even late in the game.

The contest was so one sided that UV had 16 shots, with 13 on target, while UC only had three attempts in the whole game.

The Green Booters also had eight corners to UC’s none, while getting four players booked for yellow cards, including two for Julius Acre.

Meanwhile, in the high school games powerhouse Don Bosco Technology Center remained unbeaten as it blanked the University of San Jose-Recoletos, 7-0, still at USC-TC.

Hat trick

Peter Ricamora led the pack with a hat trick performance scoring his goals in the 22nd, 45th, and 48th minutes.

Charles Caballes added two goals for DBTC , while Miko Limalima struck the opening goal in the ninth minute.

Meanwhile, in the other high school match, the top seeded University of Southern Philippines-Foundation also had a similar feat as it won over USC-North Campus, 6-0.

Once again Jephunneh Pelanio led all scorers with two goals, one in the third minute and another in the 69th minute of the game.

Glovin Chavarria, Joel Mher Sayre, Lopito Tumulak Jr. and Paolo Joven Lapasaran added a goal each for USP-F.

USP-F is still at the No.1 spot with 6 points and edged the second ranked DBTC by only two goals.

Next Saturday both DBTC and USP-F will be facing each other, while USJ-R will be up against USC-NC. (ML with EKA)

Defending champion Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) continue their championship form by posting lopsided victories against separate rivals in the secondary division of the 2008 Cebu Schools Athletic Association (CESAFI) football tournament.

Don Bosco blanked the University of San Jose-Recoletos 7-0 while USPF was equally fiery in its 6-0 drubbing of USC-North Campus at the USC Technology Center’s pitch in Talamban.

With the smashing victories, fans are expecting a preview of the championship when the clubs play next week.

Peter Ricamora starred in Don Bosco’s win by scoring four goals in the 22nd, 45th, 48th and 50th minute, respectively. Miko Limalima produced DBTC’s first goal while Charles Caballes found the net twice – in the 26th and 33rd minute – for the lopsided victory.

On the other hand, USPF never allowed USC-North to score in hotly contested match that saw two players from both squads getting yellow cards in the first half.

Jephunneh Pelanio booted the first and last goal for USPF, finding the net in the 3rd and 68th minute. Glovin Chavarria, Joel Mher Sayre, Lopito Tumulak Jr. and Paolo Joven Lapasaran produced the other goals for USPF.

THE CESAFI football tournament continues with a blockbuster quintuple bill in the two divisions, which will be highlighted by the match between the early league-leaders University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) and the defending champions University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars (USJ-R) in the collegiate division at the University of San Carlos (USC)-Technological Center in Talamban.

USPF got off to a rip-roaring start last weekend as it baptized the newcomers Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU) with a 6-0 drubbing. USJ-R, on the other hand, was held to a goalless draw by the University of the Visayas (UV).

DEFENDING champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) will face the tough University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) in the second week of the football tournament of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. today at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center (USC-TC) football grounds.

USJ-R is off from a 0-0 draw game with the University of the Visayas (UV) last weekend, and is tied at third with UV in the rankings, while the USPF routed neophyte Cebu Doctors University (CDU), 6-0, in its opening match.

USPF tops the standings with six points (1-0-0) and edges USC by goal difference.

Meanwhile, 2006 Cesafi champion USC will be facing CDU. USC ranks second in the standings with three points after a 4-2 win over University of Cebu (UC) while CDU is at the bottom of the chart at sixth place. EKA

Defending champion Don Bosco Technological Center and the University of Southern Philippines Foundation hope to duplicate their winning formula last week when they face separate opponents in the secondary division of the 2008 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Incorporated(CESAFI) football tournament today at the USC-Technological Center in Talamban, this city.

DBTC will tackle the University of San Jose-Recoletos, while Don Bosco will go up against USC-North Campus.

USC will have to be extra careful especially Paolo Zamora, who was slapped with a yellow card last week. Another yellow card for him means a one-game suspension.

“Players who were handed out yellow cards in the first game better be careful in the second game tomorrow (today). If they still receive another yellow card, they will serve a one-game suspension and can’t play in their third game,” said CESAFI football director Jonathan “Maxi” Maximo.

In the collegiate level, defending champion USJ-R guns for its first win after fighting to a draw with the University of the Visayas. The Kicking Jaguars will face tournament leader USPF.

UV, for its part, will take on UC, while the debuting Cebu Doctors’ University will battle USC.

Last week, five players from UV were slapped with yellow cards in Junard Aguilar, Jomar Labastida, Julius Acre, Melvin Lauron and Frederick Alazas, while USC had two in Melvin Elle and Kyle Soriano. – Caecent No-ot Magsumbol

THE BOOTERS of the University of San Carlos (USC) did not take long to get into form as they defeated the University of Cebu (UC), 4-2, in the collegiate division of the Cesafi football tournament at the USC-Technological Center in Talamban.

USC, last year’s runner-up to the crown and champions in 2006, wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as they scored in the game’s first minute behind a quick strike from Renan Gustilo. 15 minutes later, vaunted striker Kyle Soriano joined the scoring parade with a prolific conversion while Patrick Philip scored in the 34th minute to propel the lead to 3-0 that all but decided the game’s outcome.

UC’s Rodney Gandionco tried to rally their troops with a goal in the 76th minute but USC’s Eldon Ensumo quickly squashed those hopes with another goal six minutes from regulation time. UC’s Julius Jumaoas added a consolation goal in extra time to peg the final tally.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) also scored a 6-0 win over newcomers Cebu Doctor’s University (CDU).
