YOUNG rider Ana Patricia “Ica” Maximo continued to perform beyond her age as she won the Women’s 19-and-over and Juniors 18-and-under classes in the Cebu Criterium Championships held last weekend in Toledo City.

Representing YKKBikes.com, the 16-year-old Maximo from Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Cebu bested several senior and junior riders who answered the call in the combined race.

Ica, as she is more popularly known in cycling circles, actually won both races but was allowed to claim only the Women Junior prize. However, she was given an additional bonus of P3,000 for her achievement.

The race was dubbed as the “Race for Nilo Barbalose” as the proceeds of the race were to be given to the fallen rider. It was organized by Keith DeFeibre of California in the United States.

“This is my biggest prize so far and I’m grateful to Keith DeFiebre for promoting women and junior cycling in Cebu. I hope this can make the sport more popular,” said Maximo, a double medalist in the Philippine National Games (PNG) Track Cycling.

Meanwhile, Cory dela Cruz of Bacolod City was awarded first place in the Women 19-and-over category followed by Cebuana Andrea with Toledo City rider Daisy Batac placing third.

In other results, the Men Junior 18-and-under crown went to Raymart Tampus of Lapu-Lapu City and was followed by Rhyke Armas of Balamban and Yuan Chiongbian. Roy Carbonera of Talisay won the Men Open while Ronnel Hualda and Jayboo Pagnanawon finished in second and third, respectively. Jonel Carcueva won the 19-44 age class while Amon Espinosa got second place. Donkey Sanchez completed the podium finish.

The Men 45-and-above was ruled by DeFiebre while Philip Sainz and Rolando Pagnanawon took home the silver and bronze medal, respectively.

CEBU, Philippines - Ana Patricia ‘Ica’ Maximo snared the gold medal for Team Cebu City as she dominated the Batang Pinoy Cycling National Finals yesterday in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.
The 14-year-old Maximo of YKKBikes.com ruled the girl’s division of the road cycling event of the Batang Pinoy with a time of 46:03.04, beating Maia Yusay (48:08.79) and Mikaela Paulina (50:18.20) both from Bacolod City.
The Grade 8 student of Sacred Heart School – Hijas de Jesus managed to control the race by staying at the back then broke away from the field after five kilometers from the start.
"When I made my breakaway I was surprised that the others did not follow so I just continued my effort to cross the finish line first," said the 2013 Phil National Games (PNG) Track Cycling double medalist.

Earlier in the race, her chain got derailed and fell on the road but she recovered in time to rejoin the group. "My knee hurt when I fell. Good thing it was not that serious and I was able to get back to the race," said Maximo.
Icamax is also entered in another cycling event, the Mountain Bike (MTB) Race. "This will be my very first time to use a MTB. I hope it will be another good race for Cebu City," said Icamax who is supported by Fizik, Lake, Marin, Time and WTB.
In the distaff side, Pangasinan bets Emmanuel delos Santos (1:15:59:64), Canlas Malone Jr. (1:15:59:65) and Evans Scott (1:15:59:67) are the top three finishers in the boy’s cycling race. (FREEMAN)

MAXIMO WINS BATANG PINOY CYCLING GOLD

ANA Patricia Maximo showed racing skills beyond her years as she won the gold medal in the road bike event of the 2014 Batang Pinoy National Finals on Thursday in Bacolod City.

The 14-year old stalwart of YKKBikes.com utilized the precious experience that she culled from racing against men more than twice her age in various road races in Cebu, to best the field and finish with a time of 46 minutes and 3.34 seconds. In second place was Maia Yusay of Bacolod City who was more than two minutes behind while Mikaela Putina also of Bacolod completed the podium cast with a time of 50:18.20 minutes.

Maximo utilized her craftiness by staying close to the pack at the start before taking control of the lead five kilometers into the race. Even more impressive was the fact that the 8th grader from Sacred Heart School-Hijas de Cebu fell behind early in the race after her bike’s chain derailed and she fell on the road.

“My knee hurt when I fell. Good thing it was not that serious and I was able to get back to the race,” Maximo said.

“When I made my breakaway, I was surprised that the others did not follow so I just continued my effort to cross the finish line first,” said the 2013 Phil National Games (PNG) Track Cycling double medalist.

CEBUANO JUNIOR CYCLIST TO TRAIN IN SOUTH KOREA

MAXIMO TO JOIN 50-DAY CAMP IN KOREA

Sun Star Newspaper.  AFTER leading Cebu MultiSport to the team title in the Cobra 70.3 Ironman 70.3 mixed relay division, 18-year-old Cebuano junior cyclist Luis Miguel “Igimax” Maximo of Ateneo de Manila University will represent the country in the UCI World Cycling Center Satellite Training Camp on Sept. 2 to Oct. 20 in South Korea.

Maximo, who is a student of Ateneo de Manila University and a product of YKKBikes.com junior program, was selected for the camp along with national track coach Carlo Jazul.

They were endorsed by Bambol Tolentino of PhilCycling, the governing body for cycling.

The 50-day training camp will give participants the opportunity to undergo a high-level training and education camp to develop their knowledge and skills.

The coaching and education program will be delivered by Keith Flory and Dr. Chester Hills of World Cycling Center in UCI Switzerland.

“I am willing to go and learn new and advanced cycling programs. I am thankful to Rep. Bambol Tolentino and Director Jojo Villa for the opportunity.

But I am also a student and I need to seek permission and support from my school especially that I will be absent for 50 days,” said Maximo, a two-time Sportswriters’ Association of Cebu awardee.

CEBUANO IS COUNTRY'S REP TO INT'L BIKE CAMP

Cebu Daily News.  CEBUANO cycling sensation Luis Miguel "Igi" Maximo is expected to hone his skills even more with the hopes of representing the country in future international competitions after he was selected to participate in the UCI World Cycling Center-Korea Satellite Training Camp next month in South Korea.

Maximo, a student of the Ateneo de Manila University who led the Cebu Multisport Team to gold in the recent Ironman 70.3 in Cebu, was endorsed to join the elite camp by PhilCycling, the country's governing body of the sport, under president Bambol Tolentino. He will be joined there by national track coach Carlo Jazul.

The 50-day training camp will give the participants the opportunity to undergo a high-level training and education camp to develop their knowledge and skills. The coaching education program will be delivered by Keith Flory and Dr. Chester Hills of World Cycling Center in UCI Switzerland.

"I am willing to go and learn new and advanced cycling programs. I am thankful to Cong. Bambol Tolentino and Dir. Jojo Villa for the opportunity. Maximo is no rookie when it comes to international exposure as he represented the country in the 2012 Asian Junior Cycling Championships in Malaysia and World Youth Day in Spain with the backing of his former school - PAREF Springdale School.

The biggest cycling distributor in the country, Cebu-based YKK Trading, will be supporting the youngster by providing him with race-ready Ridley frame, Campagnolo groupset, Token wheels, Lazer helmet and eyewear, Santini jerseys, FSA crankset, Vision basebar, Lake shoes, Kenda tires, Fizik saddle, CycleOps trainer, and Challenge tires which will be used in the training camp.
