SACRED Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) eliminated the University of San Carlos-North Campus (USC-NC) of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. high school division football competition after a one-sided 15-0 win yesterday at the USC-Technology Center field.
SHS-AdC immediately made an impact in the beginning of the match, scoring five goals in the first 12 minutes.
Peter Peña struck in the first while Cheyun Hwang added a goal another a minute later. Wilfred Villaver scored a goal in the sixth, while Hwang scored his second goal in the ninth. Kyle Arrieta padded SHS-AdC’s lead with a goal in the 12th minute.
The offensive onslaught of SHS-AdC didn’t stop there, as they scored three more goals from Peña in the 21st, Vinson Neri in the 34th and Villaver in the 35th, to end the first half with an 8-0 advantage.
Keefe Yap headed the attack of SHS-AdC in the second half, scoring four goals while Josh Chen contributed two and Gabriel de Leon added one goal.
The second game had a similar result with Don Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) overwhelming University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 10-0.
DBTC also started out strong, scoring six goals in the first 20 minutes, and headed into halftime with a 7-0 lead.
Junjay Arrizabal spearheaded the attack of DBTC, with a hat trick. Christian Agot and John Caballero added two goals apiece, while Joseph Mercado, Valentino Calvo and Dennis Legaspi contributed a goal each.
DBTC clinched the top spot with 12 points with an unblemished, 4-0 slate, while SHS-AdC grabbed the second spot.
DBTC will be facing USJ-R next week, while SHS-AdC is up against USJ-R.
