USPF SURVIVES UC, GETS TOP SPOT

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) clinched the top spot of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. college football tournament in the final day of the elimination round.

USPF edged University of Cebu (UC), 3-2, while the University of San Carlos (USC) and defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) played to a scoreless

USPF now has nine points on three wins, while USC is second with eight on two wins and two draws. USJ-R is third with seven points on two wins and one draw, while UC is last with three points.

In next week’s semifinal, USPF will face UC, while USJ-R and USC square off again.

USPF sensed the importance of its last match of the elimination round, knowing that a win could boost them to the top spot. And its perseverance paid off as it took a 2-0 lead after the first half on goals by Joseph Rodriguez in the 28th and 40th minute.

Albert Tejas made it 3-0 in the 51st before UC got back in the match.

Neri Mole Jr. scored in the 55th, while Clarence Rosco made it a one-goal match in the 88th. However, it came a little too late as UC failed to score an equalizer in regulation. EKA
