THE University of San Carlos (USC) reclaimed the top spot of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. collegiate football with another victory yesterday at the USC-Technology Center pitch.

USC routed University of Cebu (UC), 2-0, to keep its lead in the collegiate competition.

Winger Folkhanes Anthony scored on a cheeky chip from five meters away in the ninth minute for the first goal.

Ian Salabao struck in the 36th to increase USC’s lead to 2-0.

UC controlled the game in the second half but unfortunately couldn’t hit the back of the net.

In the second match, defending champion University of San Jose-Recoletos eliminated University of the Visayas with a 4-0 beating.

Needing a win to stay in the top four, UV’s fortune turned south early as Eduardo Buglosa scored in the first minute before Junjun Pintuan made it 2-0 in the 21st.

Buglosa scored another goal in the 51st, while Juvinal Villahermosa sealed the match after hitting the back of the net in the 80th.

USC is now back at the top spot with seven points while USJR is now second with six.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation, which didn’t play yesterday, dropped from first to third with six points, while UC is third with three points.

UV, the 2005 Cesafi champion, only has one point in four games and its loss means USJ-R, USPF, UC and USC are assured of a spot in the semifinal round.

The four teams will play another round next week to determine the rankings.

UC will take on USPF, while USJ-R will face USC.
