THE University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) and the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) beat their opponents yesterday at the start of the 10th CESAFI High School Football Championship at the University of San Carlos – Talamban Campus (USC-TC) grounds.

Jude Alcoseba’s 15th minute goal from the center allowed USJ-R to edge USC-NC, 1-0. The Kicking Jaguars managed 11 shots with six on target while USC-NC posted seven shots with four on target.

In the second game, the SHS-AdC outclassed the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), 6-2 with the former scoring four unanswered goals in the second half after a close, 2-2 tally in the first.

Scoring for SHS-AdC’s were Kyle Arieta and Wilfred Villaver with two each while Vinson Nery and Peter Pena tallied one.

USPF’s two goals were scored by Jacob Omega and Christian Millebo.

SHS-AdC currently sits at the top of the leaderboard with three points and a goal difference of four while USJ-R is at second also with three points and a one goal difference.

As expected, SHS-AdC posted better stats than the USPF with 12 shots, six of it on target, 60 percent ball possession and managed to convert a penalty kick to a goal.

USPF, on the other hand, managed four shots with three on target.

Meanwhile, collegiate division games will open this afternoon at the same venue with USPF going up against USC in the first game and University of the Visayas (UV) facing University of Cebu (UC) in the second game.
Defending champion USJ-R will start its title retention bid next weekend yet. /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON
