Defending champions University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) bounced back from a disappointing performance after blanking the University of Cebu in yesterday's 2010 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) Football Championship in the collegiate division at the University of San Carlos (USC) Talamban Campus.

The USJ-R got its retention bid back on track with a convincing 3-0 win over UC.

It was not an easy win for USJ-R as UC fought them every step of the way, resulting to a scoreless first half of the match.

The defending champions finally found a hole in UC's defense in the 53rd minute courtesy of Junjun Pintuan. Agapito Baclaan Jr. extended USJ-R's lead to two with a goal in the 77th minute.

Junifer Ebero sealed the win for USJ-R with his last minute goal. The win towed USJ-R to third place with three points.

The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF), on the other hand, took over the top spot after slipping past the University of the Visayas (UV), 1-0, in the second match of the day.

Both teams had a sluggish start, neither finding the back of the net in the first half.

USPF's Rene Sanchez Jr. scored the lone goal of the match at the 58th minute.
The USPF now has six points while UV drops to the cellar with just a point.

USPF will be one man down on its next match after Jonard Fuentes was sent out of the match yesterday.
