O2

Jogging and trees Sun.Star Network Online: "WHAT'S the common factor between jogging and trees? Oxygen!

When you jog, you need more oxygen and trees supply it. Jogging, which is good for your physical and mental health, also leads to a significant increase in your oxygen consumption and heart rate, especially if you are jogging uphill. So trees are actually more valuable than you think."

TAKE COVER

Limpag: Atan and Tom’s pissing contest Sun.Star Network Online: "FOOTBALL COVERAGE. I heard that the Cebu Football Association was told to approach me to help improve media coverage of their sport.

I’m flattered but that isn’t necessary.

They only have to make sure that they can be contacted and that they have what reporters need when they have tournaments—details.

When the new board took over, it was a bitch to contact them. When we finally got hold of one member, he or she wasn’t willing to talk. In the end, we just stopped trying to contact them. What for?

When reporters covered their events, it was a waste of time. Their “lineups” had no names, their match reports had no details. Heck, if you ask the referee who scored, he’d say, “Ambot kinsa to.”

To get all the details, you have to be in the venue the whole day, which is impossible because reporters have other responsibilities.

That is why I wrote a few issues ago that the present board had a thing or two to learn from the previous president. Because Jonathan Maximo perfected this, which is why all the events he handled got ample coverage."...

WANT TO RUN REALLY FAST? TRAIN AT THE FERNAN BRIDGE

Leading the gold medal winners was an athlete who came to the finals with the least confidence among the participants, Daniel Noval of Mandaue City...

“Mga dagko, tag-as, mga bag-o ug nawng tanan. I was the smallest finalist. Nitalaw ko nagtan-aw nila. Nakaingon ko na bisag second or third ra gyud ko ani,” he said.

But what really pushed him yesterday was when his coach, Ilde Banzon, told him, “Kung mutalaw ka, ayaw nala’g duwa.”That prompted him to shake off the jitters and give his all in that short but straining run.

The 5’ 4” sprinter made his Palaro dream come true with a time of 11.04 seconds, a millisecond away from equalling Navaja’s record. Navaja ended his Palaro campaign as the fastest man in 2008 when he made the record last year. That time, Noval came in at fourth place.

Noval, the son of a carenderia vendor, said his training at the Marcelo Fernan bridge paid off big time.

“My training ground is the second bridge. I run that bridge everyday,” he said.
