THE four top teams of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. college football battle it out in the semifinal round at the University of San Carlos-Technology Center football pitch today.

The No.1 University of Southern Philippines Foundation will play No. 4 University of the Visayas, while No. 2 USC will face the third -ranked University of San Jose-Recoletos in a rematch of last week’s games.

USPF and UV’s match last week ended in a 1-1 deadlock, while the defending champion USJ-R triumphed over USC 2-0.

This week, however, USC will be beefed up by the return of top striker Kyle Soriano and two of the three Kenyan players, who were benched last week, and Marvin Elle, who was serving his suspension last week.

The winners of today’s semifinal matches will face each other in the championship.

Meanwhile, even if the University of Cebu is out of this year’s tournament, it still has a
consolation as its prolific striker Rodney Gandionco is the strongest contender for the Golden Boot Award.

Gandionco, who scored a total of 12 goals, possesses a seven goal advantage over erstwhile top scorer Rene Sanchez of USPF after an impressive 10 goal performance in UC’s 16-0 landslide over the winless Cebu Doctors University squad last week. (EKA)
